Why We Should Stay In Iraq

December 13, 2007

Why should we stay in Iraq? Ever wonder why we should stay in Iraq when we are having Americans killed and wounded, we are spending billions of dollars, our country is tearing itself apart over the issue and in reality many people don’t understand why we are there.

If you believe that the US is a great nation a nation capable of doing magnificent and wonderful accomplishments than you believe that our country must also be capable of taking great responsibility on its shoulders.

When we voted to invade Iraq- and yes, our elected leaders in the house and the senate voted overwhelmingly to go to war with Iraq we took on the responsibility that went along with the attack.

Four days after Coalition Forces attacked we had captured Iraq after destroying much of its military and infrastructure. We toppled Saddam and brought peace and democracy to the people of Iraq.

Funny how it did not work out that way. And now, we are being told we must pull out of Iraq, that nothing is occurring to the satisfaction of certain political leaders. That we must pull out and now.

We seem to have forgotten something we invaded their country, destroyed their way of life and we have the responsibility of getting this country back on its feet. If a surgeon opens up a patient to remove a cancerous tumor and finds nothing there does the surgeon walk away leaving the patient split open on the table? No, the surgeon closes the patient and then ensures the patient is well enough to leave the hospital in perfect health? Not necessarily but able to function on his own.

We need to ensure that Iraq is on its feet and able to survive on its own. It is part of that great responsibility of a great nation. With the responsibility comes sacrifice also. The deaths and maiming of our sons and daughters is part of the price we are paying to end this war. Was it a mistake? Only the future will tell us that. What we must understand is that to leave at this time will lessen us as a nation, as a free people that most of the world admires and wants to emulate.

Yes, the United States is the bastion of freedom and independence that most of the world wants to achieve. How many want to come to this country? How many want to leave?

This is why we must stay in Iraq. As of today we are winning the battle to get Iraq back on its feet. We can accomplish this with additional sacrifice. However, if we decide to leave these country, ill, wounds not healed we will surely deserve the wrath of the world that may occur if we do not accept the responsibility of what we have begun.

Hopefully, this responsibility also will teach us not to enter into wars unless we are certain of why we are fighting and what the outcome we are willing to accept is. America will not tolerate losing or the semblance of losing. We do not want to waste our finest people in something that does not need occur.

Now is not the time to end this great responsibility. We can prevail in Iraq and when this happens it will change the destiny of the entire Middle East. We must shoulder this responsibility or lay down the mantle of the Greatest Nation concept.
Of course, this is just my opinion…
